Known for its high performance even in harsh, past-threshold conditions, the superalloy, the Hastelloy fastener is a nickel-molybdenum-chromium-iron alloy. These key components of the alloy are present in adequate quantities with the majority of the composition being occupied by nickel, followed by proportionate fractions of molybdenum, iron, and chromium respectively. It is this systematic combination of such elements that grants the alloy enhanced properties. Molybdenum, one of the components of the fundamental elements of Hastelloy alloy is responsible for granting it increased strength when confronted with high temperature and also bestows the alloy with additional resistance against corrosion. Chromium is another element that contributes towards the corrosion resistance property of the fasteners, with a balanced proportion of nickel.

Being the most corrosion-resistant among the other nickel alloys, namely; Inconel and monel, the Hastelloy fasteners display excellent resistance against a diverse range of strong acids and other solvents and gases. The corrosion resistance property of the alloy is so developed that it protects itself marvelously against acids as strong as sulphuric and hydrochloric acid, while also being effective against chloride and sulfide ions. Harsh operating conditions include the alloy facing serious corrosion agents, but it also comprises aggressive physical conditions. The extreme rise in temperature is one such strenuous factor that can hamper the stability and the structure of the fastener as well, and in order to tackle this, the Hastelloy fasteners are equipped with heat resistance which in turn grants them with thermal stability at an impressively wide spectrum of temperatures.
